Foundational Skills

Print Concepts

  • Understands features of a sentence (first word, capitals, end punctuation)

Phonemic Awareness

  • Demonstrates understanding of spoken words, syllables, & sounds (phonemes)
  • Demonstrates understanding of spoken words, syllables, & sounds (phonemes)

Phonics and Word Recognition

  • Decodes regularly spelled one and two syllable words
  • Knows common consonant digraphs                            
  • Reads grade-appropriate high-frequency words by sight
