It is now the middle of August and all too fast it will be the end of summer and time to return to school. I would like to welcome back all of our returning students and all of our new students and families to Freeport Middle School. We are very excited about our upcoming school year.
Students will receive a paper copy of an updated schedule on their first day of school. On the first day of school all 6th-grade students will go to the cafeteria when they arrive at school and their teachers will meet them there. The 7th-grade students will all start in the 7th-grade pod. The 8th-grade students will all start in the gym. If you log into PowerSchool you can also see an updated draft of your schedule (there may still be some changes prior to day 1). Sixth-grade parents can use their 5th-grade login for PowerSchool to see their middle school schedule. If you have forgotten your password, please call the middle school office. If you have any questions regarding your child’s schedule, please contact Phyllis Latham, our guidance counselor at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you have forgot your PowerSchool username or password, please contact Mrs. Decker at 865-6051, she will return to the office on Monday August 19th.
All eighth-grade French students will have Madame Davis for 2 trimesters and Mr. Minefield for 1 trimester due to a larger French enrollment. Mr. Minefield has taught French at Kennebunk HS and is now also our chorus teacher. 6th-grade students will not start the year in with French as a unified art, because our French teacher will be helping at the high school teaching a few sections.
We have restructured our Health and Physical education classes at the middle school integrate the two and increase in the amount of physical activity students get at school. All students will now see Wellness 1 and Wellness 2 on their schedule.
The summer reading assignments for all grades have been attached on the following website. https://sites.google.com/a/rsu5.org/summer-reading/s
All of the athletic forms, except the Student Physical/Athletic Exam must now be accessed and completed in the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Students are required to have a physical exam upon entering grade 6. If you submitted a physical exam form in the last school year, you are not required to submit another one until your child enters grade 9.
The school supply list is also available on our website.
Students and parents are welcome and encouraged to come visit the school. This will help lessen any anxiety they may be feeling and to get a sense of the school. You can set up a tour with the office or tour the school at your own leisure during office hours.
We look forward to seeing you all on Tuesday, September 3th. Student drop off is between 7:30-7:37. Students need to be in their class by 7:40. Our school day ends at 2:20. Our teachers will be in the halls upon student arrival to help get to the right place. Our open house for students and parents will be on Wednesday, September 4th.
See you all very soon.
