Dear RSU 5 Families, Parents and Community Members,
The first three weeks of school have flown by very quickly. Those hot, humid summer days have passed and the changing color of the leaves remind us that fall is near. As we settle into this new school year, I wanted to provide an update to you all regarding areas of concerns that may impact families.
We continue to have many unfilled vacancies for bus drivers, educational technicians, and substitutes in all positions. Please encourage those you know looking for full-time or part-time employment to consider joining the RSU 5 team. Current openings can be found in the employment section of our website at www.rsu5.org. For further information contact our Human Resource Coordinator Ashley Rand at 865-0928 x232.
Due to our bus driver shortage there may be occasions when we are unable to transport students on one or more of our routes. If this was to occur, we encourage affected families who have the ability to transport their children to and from school to do so. Our ridership has increased this year, resulting in limited capacity to double up bus runs. We will do our best, if possible, to send a bus later in the morning.
To complicate matters for families, we may not have this information until very early in the morning. Details will be sent through the parent notification system as soon as it is available.
Thank you for your understanding and support.
Jean Skorapa, Superintendent of Schools
