Welcome to the 2019-2020 School Year

August 27, 2019

Dear Parents and Students,

I am so excited to welcome both our returning families and those who are new to our system to the 2019-2020 school year! I hope your summer has been relaxing, and that you and your children are ready for another great year of growing and learning in RSU 5. We are proud of the educational opportunities our schools provide on a daily basis to all of our students.  Our enrollment continues to grow and we expect to be educating over 2000 students for the first time since the formation of the RSU.

Our work as a district will focus on the new strategic plan that was finalized and adopted by the Board this past June. Much of the work in the plan focuses on student centered learning, with the goal to improve student achievement throughout the District. One of our goals states, “All RSU 5 school-parent-community partnerships are based on strong communication and active involvement to support student success.”  There are many ways parents can partner with us. You can become involved in your school’s parent organization, volunteer in the schools, or support your children by making sure they have good attendance. Good habits developed now will help to ensure your child’s academic success and preparedness for college or for a post-secondary career. Please stress to your child that daily attendance is a priority!

The first day of school is Tuesday, September 3 for grades PreK-9.  I would kindly request patience and understanding for the first two weeks of school as we attend to any glitches that might occur with the new bus routes. You can locate your child’s bus route HERE.

I look forward to partnering with each of you. Please do not hesitate to reach out to me with any questions, comments or concerns you may have. My email is foleyb@rsu5.org and my phone number is 865-0928. As we begin the new school year, I am grateful to be leading RSU 5 as we strive to continuously improve by inspiring and supporting every learner!

Sincerely,
Becky Foley
Superintendent of Schools
