Kindergarten

 

Habits of Work

Respect

  • Respect: respect for the ideas, feelings, and property of others

Preparedness

Engagement

  • Engagement: participation, interpersonal involvement, group-work

Determination

  • Determination: ability to self-assess; persistence, effective use of feedback

 

Reading

Foundational Skills

Print Concepts

  • Understands basic features of print: left-right, spaces, text-voice match           
  • Recognizes and names all capital/ lowercase letters of the alphabet

Phonemic Awareness

  • Demonstrates understanding of syllables
  • Isolates and pronounces initial, medial, and final sounds (phonemes)
  • Recognizes and produces rhyming words
  • Produces all consonant sounds
  • With prompting, applies long and short vowel sounds when decoding words

Phonics and Word Recognition

  • Reads grade-appropriate high-frequency words by sight (e.g., the, a, to)

Fluency

  • Reads with sufficient accuracy and fluency to support comprehension

Writing Production

  • Handwrites with appropriate alignment and size, form, neatness and spacing

Spelling

  • Spells grade level patterns

Speaking and Listening

Comprehension and Collaboration

  • Participate in collaborative conversations with diverse partners about kindergarten topics and texts with peers and adults in small and larger groups.
  • Confirm understanding of a text read aloud or information presented orally or through other media by asking and answering questions about key details and requesting clarification if something is not understood.                                                          
  • Ask and answer questions in order to seek help, get information, or clarify something that is not understood.

Presentation of Knowledge and Ideas

  • Describe familiar people, places, things, and events and, with prompting and support, provide additional detail.
