Student Mentors

The student mentor program provides a supportive environment to all entering FHS freshmen by pairing the 9th graders with 10th, 11th, and 12th grade mentors who provide friendship, guidance, and support as students navigate new and challenging circumstances. A student mentor, who ideally has excellent social and communication skills, serves as a guide for freshmen success in the high school setting. Each mentor is a resource for his/her mentees by offering peer support and recognition for academic and extra-curricular goals and achievements.

Each mentor is assigned 2-3 freshmen mentees and works with 5-7 other mentors with an assigned freshmen advisory. Mentors are asked to visit their mentee's advisory at least once a week.

Students interested in becoming a student mentor should come to the May information meeting and fill out an application. The advisors then select the students who will be a part of the mentor program for the following year. Every student mentor must attend a mandatory training and freshmen day to be a part of the program.
